Crown Point Vineyards Estate Selection 2017

The 2017 Crown Point Estate is an exciting wine with very fruit forward notes of red fruit, strawberries, and incredible floral tones of violets and toasted coffee notes. In the mouth the wine has a beautiful sweetness matched with fine grained tannins and a velvety texture. This delicious wine can be appreciated upon release or for the next 20 years easily.

Our purpose with this wine is to feature our hillside vineyard and its synergy with Cabernet Sauvignon. The higher elevation combined with an increased rock content brought a tension into the wines that balance the heat and sunshine. We notice the California clones adapt well to the Mediterranean conditions in this warm year. 2017 was a sunny and warm vintage characterized by an early September heat spike. The fruit harvested was rich, concentrated and full in color. The wines that character with a fine grain tannin and a natural sweetness.

The 2017 Estate Selection comes from the best blocks and the best clone of our Estate vineyard. Every cluster being picked at night and carefully sorted twice at the winery. Each block is fermented in a small oak or concrete fermenter.

After 25 to 30 days of fermentation each wine was drained into French oak barrels of which 50% was new and 50% once used. The wine was raised in barrels for 26 month.
